Thousands of Antennas Proposed Across Our Region
Understanding the scale of what is being planned for Clearview Township and surrounding areas
The proposed radar network represents a massive footprint across our local agricultural landscape. Clearview Township is home to highly productive farmland, significant wetlands, vibrant rural communities, and family operated agricultural businesses.
We are not opposed to national defence. We believe defence infrastructure should be located on federal land. We are asking for strong voices, a strong community response, and a commitment to protecting our land for future generations. Our land. Our future.
The Department of National Defence (DND) has purchased 700 acres of prime agricultural land in Clearview Township for a proposed A-OTHR preliminary receive site. The preliminary site lies partly on and adjacent to the internationally significant Minesing Wetlands. The DND is evaluating additional lands for future permanent receive sites that could impact thousands more acres of farmland in Clearview Township.
Arctic Over-the-Horizon Radar (A-OTHR) is part of Canada's NORAD modernization program, designed to detect potential threats approaching North America from the Arctic. The radar works by bouncing signals off the ionosphere to see beyond the Earth's curvature. It is a key component of Canada's $38.6 billion NORAD modernization investment.
